The phrase "Semper invicta" is a motto of Warsaw city and it means "Forever Undefeated". It can be found written in marker on the seat of a tram or on an incompetently scratched-off sticker on the subway.
Memories of heroism and bloodshed are at every corner of the capital in the form of monuments, countless memorial plaques, the remains of buildings. From a young age Poles are taught to proudly carry the memory of the heroes of Warsaw. The older we get, the more votes subject that same pride to doubt. My project is not historical commentary. It is in reference to the present, and to the burden of our awareness of living in a city where people like us loved and died for their beliefs.
That old city is gone, the new one still has its nightmares.
